Following the deportation of 1755, Acadian families settled down on the shores of Lake Saint-Paul, in Bécancour, starting from the year 1758. Among them we find the Cormier family (nicknamed “Rossingol”), master shipbuilders for generations. The exceptional wood resources available were exploited by these skilful workers who set up shipyards. They built several types of ships, including schooners, brigs, and sloops. For more than sixty years, the inhabitants of Lake Saint-Paul lived to the rhythm of the saw, the mallet and the adze.
