*The term “museum-type organization” refers to permanent, non-profit making organizations (or organizations affiliated to a religious institution, a school or a municipality), working for a corporation and its development, open to the public and which has one or more of the following functions: researching, collecting, preserving, educating and communicating. This definition includes organizations that have similar objectives, that possess some or all of the characteristics of a museum or that give museums and professionals working in museums the tools to enrich the development of museology and museography.
The organization must occupy a building or, at the very least, a room in a building that is permanently dedicated to the promotion and interpretation of museum-related content. The space must be open to the public and operate according to an established schedule.
